Change your perspective on money this New Year!

It’s often small shifts that can change our money habits for the good. King Solomon, tells us in Ecclesiastes, chapter 10, “Through laziness, the rafters sag; because of idle hands, the house leaks.” – Do your financial plans “leak” for lack of attention?  The beginning of a new year is always a good time to gage if you’re where you want to be, seek help from wise counsel and just maybe consider a new way.

There are five things you can do with your income: spend it on your lifestyle, give to the less fortunate, pay taxes, pay off debt, or save it for future use.  We call these the “live, give, owe, grow.” These five uses of money, make up all your spending decisions.

Our culture screams for us to grab the gusto and live life to the fullest which when not put into the right perspective often leads us to focus on “live” first; leading to overspending on lifestyle resulting in debt, unfunded long-term needs, and little or no giving.

We believe NOW is the time to “reboot” and change your sequence of spending as follows: pay your taxes (owe), pay your debts (owe), give to those in need (give), save and invest for future needs (grow) and then spend the remainder on lifestyle (live). In doing so, this preferred sequence automatically helps us apply Biblical money management principles which lead to financial stability, margin for uncertainty and the fulfillment of long-term goals and priorities.

The result: Greater Confidence, More Contentment, Financial Freedom and Funded Long-term Goals.  What a way to begin the New Year!
