What is the Christian Lifestyle?
So just what is the right Christian lifestyle?
It’s not about the size of your home, or how fancy your car is, or even the vacations or the clothes you wear. It is about how you have ordered your spending and your perspective on money. Remember even your income is given to you by God. As Deuteronomy 8:17 & 18 says, “You may say to yourself, 'My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth…”
A Biblical lifestyle would include:
You understand that money is nothing more than a tool to accomplish God-given priorities
You spend less than you earn
You model generosity and share with those in need
You have limited or no debt, so that it won’t become a burden (such as a mortgage payment of no more than 25% of your gross monthly income)
You save and have reserves and appropriate liquidity
You plan for your future needs and later life as instructed in Proverbs
You and your spouse have unity relating to how your spending your money
So as you look at your financial plan, remember there is no one size fits all Christian lifestyle, it’s the foundation on which that lifestyle is built.
